telephoned Dick Weinle
last week just to make certain
he still owned the iconic drag
strip near Cincinnati, Ohio, known
as Edgewater Sports Park. I had
little reason to believe anything
had changed since my last visit, al-
though Dick has been half-heartedly
contemplating retirement since
around age 78! We met a few years
ago when I was bouncing around
the country searching for drag
strips that I’d never been to. The
hunt that weekend lead me
to Edgewater. It was a beau-
tiful Saturday afternoon and
since I arrived hours before
the race began, Weinle gave
me the grand tour by way of
