Month in and month out , we seek to shine a light on the wide-ranging group of people who make up the sport of drag racing . Once a year , though , we dedicate a special spread of pages in Drag Illustrated to the young men and women who have spent a considerable amount of their 30 or less years on Earth as a participant in the straight-line pursuit . There are countless individuals who fit this profile – just look at the booming NHRA Junior Drag Racing League , or the High School class on any given weekend at local tracks across the country .
Through a widespread online search for nominees , in which nearly 9,000 different nomination forms were filled out by parents , siblings , grandparents , schoolteachers , neighbors , and fellow racers , the Drag Illustrated staff decided on the DI 30 Under 30 class of 2016 . This year ’ s honorees are millennials who don ’ t fit the stereotypes of millennials . Some are doing big things behind the wheel of a race car on the sport ’ s grandest stages , while others toil away in pit areas , dyno rooms , and chassis shops . A handful of these members burst onto the scene in 2016 ; many more have been working away consistently for years , chasing the next winning time slip , shiny trophy , or giant cardboard check . Whether they ’ re driving , tuning , or doing a little bit of everything , we believe these 30 youthful guys and girls are some of the brightest stars who will help carry drag racing into the future .
