And the good racing was seen a lot earlier on Sunday than it has in past years , thanks to Roth ’ s decision to run the first round of eliminations in several classes Saturday afternoon . Were it not for a 55-minute rain delay Sunday , winners would have been given trophies while the sun was still up .

The event is seen as both an endurance event and the final race of the year , a king-of-the-hill type affair where bragging rights are valued as much as the paycheck . Winning here doesn ’ t mean you ’ re necessarily the fastest or the smartest or the best financed . Winning here means your team has the most stamina , is the most focused , and , in many cases , has the most luck of any group in the pit .

“ It was originally meant to be the West Coast version of the World Street Finals in Orlando ,” Roth said of the origins of SCSN . “ I started the PSCA basically because I wanted a place to race my Mustang and figured if I felt that way , other people did , too . From the change of Pacific to Premier in PSCA and the creation of a second SCSN at Gateway Motorsports Park near St . Louis , recent years have seen large growth in the series .
