Heralded as the biggest event to hit Wilkesboro Dragway in nearly
three decades, the first-annual Don Carlton Memorial and Nostalgia
Pro Stock shootout brought nearly a dozen vintage doorslammers to
the picturesque racing property and provided nearly non-stop thrills
for the 3,000-plus fans in attendance. From Jeff Rudisil and Tyronne
Graham’s near-identical Eckman and Orndorff tribute 1986 Chevy
Camaro IROC and Gordon Moore’s ’78 “Dyno Don” Mustang to Dr.
Ron Berges original Dave Shafer 1976 Mustang II, it was a magical
representation of doorslammer drag racing’s glory days.
