Walking and exercise: If your back is extremely painful, try to avoid going up and down stairs. Walking and swimming are strongly recommended. Walk as much as possi- ble, without exhausting yourself. Do not engage in competitive sports for the first three to six months. Ask your doctor when you are allowed to start with your specific sport. You are not allowed to do sit-ups ever again.
