Meet Instructor John Ley
John holds a degree in music education from
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
where he studied voice and piano. He
continued his studies at VanderCook College
of Music in Chicago where he received a
Masters of Music Education Degree. He has
been teaching private lessons in voice, piano,
and guitar for eight years to a variety of ages
from kindergarten through adult. For 15
years, he has played and sang with a number
of ensembles from rock bands and traditional
Irish music to concert choirs and vocal jazz
groups. John’s goal for his students is to
develop a long-lasting love for music and to
improve their musical abilities to best express
themselves as individuals.

A Des Plaines tradition for over 35 years,
the Community Concert Band has a wide
repertoire that ranges from the classics to
great Sousa marches, from contemporary
concert band standards to the latest
