Dow Jones News Fund Annual Report 2014 PUBLICATIONS Adviser Update Adviser Update, edited by George Taylor and designed by Kathy Zwiebel, both former Teachers of the Year, provides free essential information for high school journalism teachers and advisers while offering solid examples of good journalistic practice at no cost to high school teachers. Each issue features articles and columns written by journalism educators. Regular contributors include: “Press Rights” columnists John Bowen, chair of the JEA Scholastic Press Rights Commission and Candace Perkins Bowen, an assistant professor at Kent State University and director of the Center for Scholastic Journalism and the Ohio Scholastic Media Association; Gary Clites, technology columnist for Adviser Update; Anne Whitt, “Footnotes: Tales and Traditions of the Press” columnist; Steve Row, “Writer’s Block” columnist and journalism instructor at East Carolina University; and Kathy Craghead, retired high school journalism teacher and yearbook adviser who publishes a JEA Listserv column. The publication is fortunate to have several recurring sponsors including the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Journalism Education Association, Quill and Scroll, Pennsylvania State University, and Mercer University. E-Newsletter The Dow Jones News Fund regularly communicates with alumni and journalism colleagues through email alerts about job openings, grant funding opportunities, journalism contests, fellowships, and other news. Our email list consists of alumni of our high school and college programs, high school journalism educators, college professors and media professionals. Social Media Our Facebook following nearly tripled in 2014, leaping from 343 followers to 940.
