Dow Jones News Fund Multimedia Training Academy at University of Texas at El Paso
The Dow Jones News Fund provided 12 journalism instructors from Hispanic-Serving Institutions with scholarships to attend a fast-paced , hands-on multimedia training program at the University of Texas at El Paso from May 30 to June 5 .

The workshop addressed the disparate skills in new media technology among college journalism professors for teaching multimedia journalism during a revolutionary era that requires new hires to possess not just strong knowledge of journalism practices but also high-end production and editing skills .

The team of experienced trainers included — Doug Mitchell , nationally-known multimedia consultant and NPR consultant project manager ; Kate Gannon , former web editor for The Coloradoan ; Monica Ortiz Uribe , senior field correspondent for Fronteras Desk and NPR freelance reporter ; and Lourdes Cueva Chacón , Borderzine webmaster and UTEP full-time lecturer . Participants were taught essential software like Final Cut Pro X , iMovie , SoundSlides , Audacity , WordPress , and other multimedia technologies .
