STEPHANIE SAUNDERS FLOWERS
EXPERT COLUMN: FLORIST
Winter. That
time of year
when the dark
nights draw in
and the fresh,
silvery tones of nature take
over, featuring the odd burst
of colour here or there. Whilst
you take a gamble with the
weather, a winter wedding
can be a truly romantic
experience.
Many winter Brides come to me
with one of two colour ways for
their flowers… rich, luxurious reds
or crisp, icy whites. Both can look
sensational when done correctly,
but winter can offer up so much
more choice. There is a plethora of
floral jewels and foliages that are
just perfect for a winter wedding.
My favourite, alternative look for
a winter wedding would be a
glamorous, vintage Hollywood style.
The use of glitzy metallics amongst
our favoured flowers is the perfect
fusion for a glamorous
winter wedding. It adds luxury
and style and will transform
any colour palette into
something very special.
With both the design and
fashion worlds focusing
on pink, it is expected
that this charming
colour way will form the
backdrop to many an
elegant wedding day.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with
the use of metallics. It really is a
beautiful and glamorous style that
embodies sophistication and pure
luxury. Something really special that
I’m sure your guests will remember
for a long time…
I know I would!

Candles are a must, they look
sensational in the winter months.

New season pink is a very
subtle blush, almost nude
colour. The ‘Quicksand’
Rose is the perfect choice
for this stunning colour
combination. It has a
mut ed tone to it that is
understated yet shouts
effortless style. The
addition of creams and
ivories to this colour
way add to the luxe
feel further. The
warmth of the cream
tones work well
with the
metallics
and help
soften the
entire look.
Gold-sprayed foliage looks
gorgeous nestled in amongst your
flowers, or skirting the edge of a
bouquet. The use of soft, flickering
candlelight will pick up on the
touches of gold and will enhance the
look in its entirety. Don’t be afraid
to use some gold toned flowers too,
the ‘Caramel Antique’ Rose, gives a
soft gold, almost champagne colour
to the design and broken down
i
into petals look so beautiful lining
t
the aisle or softening the base of
c
candles as a feature.
