THE GREAT DEBATE

Two of my closest friends are both
5ft 3, a size 10 and a petite hour glass
figure with brunette hair – on paper
they are practically identical but in
person this couldn’t be less true. One
of them is a lover of vintage tweed,
pastels and pearls – while the other
is completely boho and eclectic - she
adores long flowing skirts, vibrant
colours and wears flowers in her hair!
Can you honestly say they would
both be comfortable in the same
dress on your wedding day?
Having done a lot of research for my
friend, here are my top tips and picks
for bridesmaid frocks…
Same dress - own style!
Two Birds Bridal, Dessy Twist
Dresses and the BHS convertible
twist dresses have been the
saviour of many brides and
bridesmaids. These beautiful
gowns can be tied and untied in
any way you please.
Shades and Tones
A popular choice recently has
been for maids to wear different
colours and tones. I personally
think the key to pulling off this
look is unity. Ensure the fabric of
their dresses remains the same
and they opt for similar colour
tones. When it comes to mixing
and matching your girls frocks in this
way I think the same colour bouquets
is a must to tie the look together.
Separates
Who ever said the dress reigns
supreme when it comes to your
maids outfit? Why not pair a beautiful
embellished vest with a floaty floor
length skirt? I have seen so many
glamorous separates out
there that I think they
would make for a simply
striking look for your girls.

I am a big fan of dresses
by Ears and Whiskers
and Soho Made! They
have gorgeous quirky tea
dresses in fabulous prints
and they are available
in a number of styles. I

I am not saying people shouldn’t
have matching maids – I did, but
personally I am all about people
being comfortable! For me, we all
come in different shapes, sizes, skin
tones and hair colour which is what
makes us part of the rich tapestry of
life. This is before we even take into
account each person’s individual
style and taste.

think your bridesmaids would love
you eternally for choosing a unique
dress that matches their personality
and style and I love that they are
handmade too which I think adds an
extra personal touch.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
If all else fails, tie your bridesmaids
look together with accessories maybe a neutral matching pashmina
shawl or a striking hair piece.
Remember, whatever happens,
they are your best girls and will be
there at your side on one of the most
amazing days of your life which is the
most important thing.
All my love, until next time
