The Cream of the Crop
BV Dairy tell us about their love of all things Dorset…
Tell us a bit about your Dorset roots…
The Blackmore Vale in Dorset was described by classic
author Thomas Hardy as “the vale of the little dairies”.
Blackmore Vale Farm Cream first came to the market in
1958 and was made at a traditional family-owned dairy
farm in the Vale.
Great local producers, great quality of goods and
freshness.
What do you love about being in Dorset?
Much slower pace of life. Fantastic walks, friendly
people, great cider.
What’s one item of Dorset food we have to try?
Our award winning Dorset Clotted Cream.
Who are your favourite Dorset producers?
We haven’t found one that could not class as a favourite
– all are fantastic in their own way.
What are the benefits of being a smaller scale
producer like Dorset Food and Drink’s
members?
We are a medium sized producer but there is a real
passion for local produce and meeting and working with
like-minded companies.
What are you favourite places to eat and drink in
Dorset?
We were proud supporters of the Taste of Dorset
Awards in 2015 and sponsored the Best Restaurant or
Dining Pub. The Riverside Restaurant won this
category but you can’t beat the fresh fish from our
coastline.
Why do you think it’s important to shop locally,
seasonally and sustainably for food and drink?
With a real focus on food miles, local has to be best.
Why are you passionate about Dorset’s local
producers?
Local producers make our area unique.
