BAKERY, CONFECTIONERY, CHOCOLATE AND SNACKS D orset’s kitchens have long been known to turn out a treat or two. The iconic Dorset Knob biscuit dates back to the 1860s and there are family-run bakeries who have been delivering our daily bread for over a hundred years. Baking in the county goes from reassuringly sturdy pies and puddings, often made without the aid of gluten, to impressive celebration cakes worthy of their own Instagram feed. Chocolate has proved to be a great vehicle for collaboration. Chocolatiers have infused their confectionery with local and seasonal flavours from other producers with award-winning results. Visit our members’ shops and you will often see them making their products. Many of the snacks, cakes and confectionery in this section can be bought from the maker’s stall at a market or event. It’s a great way to sample some of Dorset’s most delicious food. See Also… Angel Cake Company p84 Mrs Green’s Farm Kitchen p51 Olives et al p51 37
