Tesla Motors: Leading the Industry In Electric Luxury Cars 10 years ago, if someone were to say that cars would successfully run on high-energy batteries, which could keep up with their gasoline counterparts –there would be a few scowls, some laughter, and quite a bit of openly skeptical responses. The suggestion would have been outrageous, and of course, infeasible to customers and shareholders. However, in the year 2014, Tesla Motors has silenced the skeptics, converting the dubiously theoretical into a marketable reality. In fact, already the Tesla Motors Model S has received a raving Consumer Report magazine review, saying “the Model S, which starts at $69,900, ranked it with the best vehicles it has ever tested,” according to DelcoTimes.com. In 2013, Tesla Motors delivered 21,000 of them; which comes as no surprise, since this model has “the highest safety-ranking in America”. In addition, according to a Jan 2014 Time Business article, Tesla is also projected to make a $35,000 model by 2017. Here are a couple future projects that Tesla Motors is developing with Straubel as the CTO: • Battery Swapping Stations – After a demonstration at a luxurious event, Musk was able to prove that they can swap a battery within 93 seconds – faster than it takes to fill up the tank. Their projected plan is that this service will be available at Tesla’s supercharging stations, and will cost from $60- $80. The result is that you get a lightningfast ‘recharge’, and you are on your way without ever setting foot outside the vehicle, says Bloomberg’s Businessweek. Note: Tesla is building what they call Super Charger stations across the country and across the world to allow you to charge your Tesla auto for free. Buy a Tesla and the energy to power the car can be free for life! Granted it takes 20 minutes, but, that time is coming down, too. • 5-Minute-Charge Batteries – In another TechnologyReview.com article, Straubel says that they may soon be able to get the charging time down to “five to 10 minutes”. Basically, the conversion of the current from AC to DC would happen outside the car, while a computer regulates the charging process. A Game-Changing Idea, Planted In Door County The innovative developments, coming out of the Tesla Motors ‘shop’, have the potential to change the world. Very soon, we may see the long anticipated movement from the
