Limerick’s Top Producers Ch. Robin of Limerick Bottom left: Ch. Urlimerick of Kilmara was born in 1996 and sired 19 champions. A multiple specialty winner and Limerick’s first all-breed Best in Show winner (owner-handled), he was a topranking IW in the late ‘90s. Bottom right: Ch. Taryn Tate of Limerick SC (born 2000) was the sire of 37 champions, winner of seven specialties and BOS at the IWCA National Specialty in 2005. He was an all-breed BIS winner, ownerhandled, the No. 1 IW in the breed in 2002 and the top-producing IW sire in 2007 and 2008. 62  LS: We have a 30-by-60-foot building with three huge indoor/outdoor kennels extending off of one end. There is a large overhang built outside and doors, which we leave open. Doggie doors sometimes catch tails, and we prefer to not use them in the kennels. They have horse mats with pads and blankets for sleeping. We let the dogs out in the morning, and they do not get closed back in until late in the evening. The kennels face out to a huge agricultural area, so when they have their howling sessions in the middle of the night or early in the morning, it goes out to the fields and does not disturb the neighbors. They spend their entire day with full access to our one flat acre. We have a covered patio right off our family room, and they spend their daytime rest periods there. If the squirrels show up, they’re off and running from one end of the property to the other. We believe Wolfhounds should be out in the fresh air and getting all the exercise possible. Living inside on the couch 24/7 is not good for them. There is far more opportunity for periods of exercise outside than in the house. They run mostly on grass and some pea gravel. The only cement is around the swimming pool. None of our dogs have ever been Our Limerick males have sired 157 champions to date for us and for others. Limerick bitches owned and residing with us over the past 40 years have produced 53 champions to date from a total of 16 litters (112 puppies). Our top-producing bitch was Ch. Robin of Limerick, born in 1976, with nine champions from her one and only litter sired by Ch. Shaw of Limerick. Our next top-producing bitch was Ch. Halle of Limerick with seven champions from her one and only litter sired by Ch. Taryn Tate of Limerick SC, who was the top-producing Irish Wolfhound sire in 2007 and 2008. interested in the pool. Instead, when it’s warm, they like the moving sprinklers. The property has many shade trees and some fruit trees. And yes, they strip any fruit they can reach! We feed twice a day a good grade of kibble, groom as necessary and socialize with company at home and dog shows. My grandchildren have been great socializers in recent years. I will scissor down an older dog to make it more comfortable for them and to avoid prolonged grooming sessions, which they greatly appreciate. My only kennel help is my wonderful husband of almost 50 years, Cliff. He is the reason we have been able to travel extensively. He takes wonderful care of the dogs and does not like to travel himself. He is a tennis player and a homebody. We thank our lucky stars for him every day. DIR: How many shows do you attend each year? Do you drive to all shows? What are your favorites? LS: We used to attend 60 to 70 shows per year but currently only about 35. We now have selected weekends, which include hound shows and specialties and a few special allbreed weekends. DogsinReview.com 58x66_KennelVisit.indd 62 8/15/16 2:10 PM
