After Mr. Yerusalimsky had gone over all 10 dogs, they were sent back to the collecting ring, and the four top placements were announced in reverse order. The first one to come in was the Rhodesian Ridgeback, then the Weimaraner was called for third place. When the American Cocker was called in as Reserve BIS, there was no doubt that the ultimate winner had to be the Black Russian Terrier! The 3-year-old Fine Lady s Zolotogo Grada is aptly named. She is no newcomer in the top circles. At the Helsinki WDS two years ago, she got the Junior title, and last year she won the Group at the Oslo European Dog Show. There were 171 Black Russians entered at this World Dog Show, dozens of champions among them, so she beat out some tough competition in the breed ring before climbing to the top spot. The Reserve BIS-winning American Cocker had trouble getting back home because the joint owners, three ladies from Finland, had planned to go home on Sunday and had visas for that day. You can’t assume that you will win the Group at the WDS! So they had to stay until the end, and of course it was so late by the time they got to the airport that there were no more flights to Helsinki. So they spent the night at the airport with their dog and huge trophy, and had to hurry to the consulate on Monday morning to renew the visa. But that inconvenience is worth it when your dog is named the second best in the world!
