He chose the young Lhasa Apso from Italy, Shut Up And Kiss Me dell’Alberico, owned and bred by the famous Italian breeder Stefano Paolantoni. Just a couple of weeks earlier, I witnessed this little charmer win Best Junior in Show at one of the Nitra triple shows in Slovakia. GROUP 7: KARL DONVIL; GROUP 8: TEXTERRI The Best in Show Finals The BIS judge was Mr. Eugene Yerusalimsky, the founder and first President of the RKF, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. He got the various canine clubs together in those Soviet Union days and convinced them that it would be wise to join the FCI. He is a colorful personality with many talents and also has excellent command of several languages. He is not as active as he used to be in the Russian dog show world, but he can still be found judging in all parts of the world. The worldwide reputation of quality Russian Standard Schnauzers is mostly because of his efforts. To judge BIS at this World Dog Show must have been his dream come true. The winner of the Pastoral Group, the White Swiss Shepherd Doux Ice Wine from Hungary, managed to beat last year’s Milano WDS BIS-winning Bearded Collie, who placed second in the Group. The Scenthound Group is large, too, but most of the breeds are rarely seen outside their native countries. The winner was the handsome Rhodesian Ridgeback Makao Line Atuin Art from Russia. There are also many rare breeds in the Pointing Gundogs Group, but Weimaraners are well-known almost everywhere, and it was one of them that won, Doc n Camelot’s Heaven Can Wait from Belgium. The current leading show star in Finland, the American Cocker Very Vigie Huluberlulu, won Group 8. In the Toy & Companion dog Group, there was a battle of Titans when the current leader of Italy’s top dog list, the Maltese Cinecitta Ian Somerhaider, and the former Crufts Supreme Champion, the black Standard Poodle Afterglow Maverick Sabre, met. Now the Maltese won and Poodle was second. And last but not least, the best of the CONTINUED ON PAGE 48 SEPTEMBER 2016 40x54_WDS_v2.indd 45 DOGS IN REVIEW 45 8/15/16 1:46 PM
