SHOW SCENE W PAULA PASCOE 98 WHO WON WHAT WHERE: MID-JUNE TO LATE JULY e have a lot of results in this issue — this report spans 172 all-breed shows held over five weekends between the third weekend of June and the third weekend of July. All these shows made for a total of more than 145,000 dogs entered, but many shows were small: There were 28 shows that drew fewer than 500 dogs, while only two attracted more than 2,000. The number of dogs defeated to earn Group placements were terribly small in some cases. It has become extremely easy to get a major in many breeds, what with the small entries in so many shows. Looking at the numbers required for Hounds in my own division (Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin), it only takes four to make a major in dogs in 24 breeds, and in bitches in 23 breeds. For example, it only takes four bitches to make a major in Afghan Hounds in my division! The third weekend in June consisted of 33 events held in 13 cities, with 27,386 dogs entered. The weekend involved a six-show circuit and a four-show cluster (which provided the largest entries per event of the weekend), and three threeshow clusters. The average entry among these 33 events was 830 dogs. The fourth weekend of June offered a whopping 41 shows in 15 venues, attracting 30,708 dog entries. A marathon circuit of eight shows took place in three different Montana cities. There were also four four-show clusters and a three-show grouping. The average entry for this weekend was just 749 dogs. Thirty-two events took place in 10 locations on the weekend spanning the end of June through the July Fourth holiday. With nearly 27,500 entries involved, the average entry was about 860. A fiveshow cluster, two four-show groupings and five clusters consisting of three shows were held. The second weekend of July saw the only large entries in this report, with the Texas KC and Trinity Valley KC shows in Dallas each attracting about 2,000 dogs and the Saturday Ann Arbor KC show coming close to 2,000. We find one five-show cluster, one cluster with four events, and three clusters of three shows contributing to the weekend total of more than 28,500 entries. The average entry was more than 1,000 dogs, a total we would like to see more often. Finally, the third weekend of July provided 38 events held in 12 venues. With a total of more than 31,200 dogs, the largest weekend total in this month’s report, only seven of these shows attracted more than 1,000 dogs, and the average entry was about 820. We count six four-show clusters, and two more with three shows. da Spediacci, BIS Chow Chow GCh. Padow’s Too Hot To Handle.  Inland Empire KA 7-17-16 Coeur D’Alene, ID. Entry 585.
