Havanese!); and finally, Mary Anne Brocious put up two Bon
Idee Bouviers des Flandres in the Herding Group.
The final was judged jointly by two big international
names, Andrew Brace of Great Britain and Ann Ingram from
Ireland, with John Palmer of Australia as tiebreaker. His services turned out not to be required because Brace and Ingram
agreed that the two Airedale Terriers, GCh. Brisline’s Baron
Basil Of Woodside and GCh. Brisline’s Zeta Jones, with Georgia McRae and Barbara Fakkema as breeders in common for
both, should be the ultimate winners in Breeder’s Showcase.
Runners-up were the Borzoi.
A complimentary buffet dinner was served to all exhibitors
and handlers during the judging. As part of the Breeder’s Showcase, the club also announced honorees “for their contribution
to the Sport” in each of the seven Groups:
Sporting: Dorothy Macdonald
Hound: Paul Lepiane and Bo Bengtson
Working: Amy and Andrew Green
Terrier: Ruth Zeigler and Yvonne Phelps
Toy: Viola Burgos
Non-Sporting: Janet Lange Moses
Herding: Joe Gregory
One special event was saved for Sunday: the Foreign-Bred
competition. A lot of people love seeing dogs from different
countries compete — again, for big prize money: $1,000 to
the winner, $500 to second place, $250 to third, $125 to fourth
and $100 each to four Awards of Merit. Others feel it all drags
on too long, and quite frankly, by late Sunday afternoon, even
those who were not anxious to leave the show as soon as possible were probably pretty tired. Andrew Brace and Sei-ichiro
Ishimaru jointly decided that the winner should be the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Ch. Alenclaud Vicenta, imported from Argentina. Runner-up was the Westminster Group-winning Shih
Tzu from Canada that was also second in this competition last
year, GCh. Wenrick’s Don’t Stop Believing.

With all these events going on, it would be natural if the regular Group and BIS judging were pushed into the background.
That was hardly the case, however. On Friday, Eugene Blake
awarded BIS to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi GCh. Coventry
Country Squire, on this occasion handled by breeder Bill
