There were 66 French Bulldogs , 28 Bull Terriers , 25 Miniature Bull Terriers and 22 Bulldogs , for instance . The parallel competition that ’ s judged simultaneously with the Bullyganza , the Sighthound Spectacular , did not result in huge entry figures for these breeds , however : 27 Whippets , 21 Rhodesian Ridgebacks and 19 Salukis were the stand-outs . Nevertheless , Sighthound specialist judge Eugene Blake had an impressive collection of winners to judge , with the top placement going to the same dog as last year : the Borzoi GCh . Belisarius JP My Sassy Girl . At that time , ‘ Lucy ’ was still unknown to most of us ; now she has a Westminster RBIS and several other high-profile wins to her name .
Big Money Prizes
Much of the attention at SBKC is focused on what ’ s called the Breeder ’ s Showcase , where two dogs bred by the same person compete as a team , first at the Group level , and then the seven finalists go in for Best in Breeder ’ s Showcase . That 107 breeders entered two dogs each was a slight improvement on last year but not nearly as many as one could hope , especially with the money prizes that were offered . The winner took home $ 1,500 for Best in Breeder ’ s Showcase and the runner-up $ 1,000 . The seven finalists each won $ 500 , each Group 2nd got $ 400 , Group 3rd $ 300 , Group 4th $ 200 , and four Awards of Merit in each Group won $ 100 each . The judges were superbly well qualified : Pluis Davern judged the Sporting breeds and found her winners in two Wirehaired Pointing Griffons from Whiskeytown ; David Frei put up the Belisarius Borzoi from Japan in Hounds ; Michelle Santana placed the Mojo ’ s Akitas first among the Working breeds ; Nicolas Pineiro had the Brisline Airedale Terriers first among the Terriers ; Sei-ichiro Ishimaru of Japan found two Bellatak Havanese as the best of the Toys ; Betsy Dale placed the Players Tibetan Terriers first among the Non-Sporting ( with David Murray , co-breeder of the Tibetans , also listed as the agent for the
