elow find the BIS results of 142
all-breed shows held between
the last weekend of August and
the third weekend of September. There
were a total of over 109,000 entries involved in these events, for an overall
average of about 770 dogs entered
per show. We find an equal number of
shows with entries in excess of 1,000
dogs and those with entries of fewer
than 500 dogs — 32 events in each category. There were no shows with more
than 2,000 entered in the four weekends
reported this month.
The end of August saw 32 shows
held in 11 locations on the last weekend of the month. The 30,548 total entries made for an average of 955 dogs
per event. The largest shows were in
Atlanta, Ga., with a total of 6,330 entries
for that four-show cluster.
Not surprisingly, the busiest weekend in this report was the Labor Day
weekend, which started off September
with a total of 49 shows taking place
in 17 venues. The five-show cluster in
Lexington, Ky., produced the largest
entries, but many small shows brought
the average number of dogs entered per
event over the weekend down to only
614. The total number of entries among
these 49 shows was just over 30,100.
The second weekend in September involved 23 events in 10 cities. The concentration was greater, with nearly 19,000
dog entries among these shows, for an
average of more than 800 dogs per event.
The largest entries were found in Bridgewater, N.J., in that three-show cluster.
Another weekend with a total of
about 30,100 dog entries, matching the
entry total of Labor Day weekend, was

the third weekend of September, which
consisted of 38 events in 14 states.
Vallejo, Calif., was where the greatest
number of entries were found. The average entry per show over this weekend
was just under 800 dogs per event.
