master and skillful handler , Simo Jyrkinen .
It was very interesting that all the Group winners on Sunday were different from those on Saturday , although some dogs managed to get a placing both days . The BIS judge on Sunday was one of our own all-breed judges : Mrs . Annukka Paloheimo . She had booked a stylist to do her hair and make-up before entering the main ring and , oh my , she did look stunning !
Again , there was a great international collection of top-class dogs to choose from . Five of the 10 Group winners were Finnish dogs : three from Sweden , one from Norway and one from Russia . It was almost like a match among the neighboring countries .
The two top placings went to Sweden . The BIS winner was the black Standard Poodle Ch . Huffish Rave the Rhythm , owned by Charlotte Sandell and Peter Palmedal . He was , in
The show drew dogs representing 23 nations , as well as judges from all over the world .
fact , third in Group on Saturday in very tough competition . He is sired by UK Ch . Vicmars Rave On , who has some Swedish background , and on the dam ’ s side there is a drop of American blood . He returned recently from the US where he gained a Ch . title , too . He was clipped and handled by Charlotte , the breeder , who has guided so many top Poodles to big wins .
The runner-up was another black dog from a very famous strain : the Flat-Coated Retriever Ch . Almanza Tough Enough , owned by Lena Broms . This dog was already in the veteran class , being nearly 9 years old , and was now in Finland for the first time . On Saturday he won the veteran class , but got nothing more . Annukka Paloheimo , herself , had judged the breed , so obviously she was greatly impressed by this lively and happy-looking senior .
Third was the best Finnish dog , the Shetland Sheepdog Ch . Onnenpisaran Voittamaton Riemu , owned by Päivi Lilleberg . He was a new name to me , although he has often done well in the breed ring . On Saturday he was second among the dogs in the breed , which is not bad in a big entry . He was Junior World Winner at the Helsinki World Dog Show two years ago , but now he is fully matured and ready for serious winning . Fourth place went to Norway , to the Wire-haired Standard Dachshund Ch . Absint av Larhjelm , bred and owned by Lars Hjelmvedt . This bitch has visited our shows before and was Junior Winner three years ago .
The FCI Group 2 was won by the famous Pyrenean Mountain Dog Int . Ch . Chenespace Tarbesan , bred and owned by the Salonen family . He was second on the Dog of the Year list , so he is used to big wins and took his place with dignity . The Terrier Group was won by the Scottish Terrier Ch . Quaint Quincent , owned by Arja Tuuliniemi . He hasn ’ t been shown very much during his three
