Melanie Steele is well known as the longtime breeder of the famous Grand Cru Greyhounds in Palmetto Bluff , S . C . She and her husband , Jack , are also deeply committed to canine research and the betterment of the lives of all dogs . To that end , she recently collaborated with noted photographer Holli Murphy to produce an elegant coffee table book that celebrates dogs . Melanie conceived of the book as a fundraiser for the North Carolina College of Veterinary Medicine to aid in the research performed there and headed up by Denis J . Marcellin- Little , DEDV , Professor , Orthopedic Surgery . In Dr . Marcellin-Little ’ s words , “ Thanks to the generosity of the author , proceeds from the sale of this book will benefit the medical care and responsible research performed by our orthopedic group … Through clinical research begun in the 1980s , we have developed hip replacement methods , identified and described conditions that interrupt blood supply to the bone and affect bone formation , and investigated long-term impact of orthopedic procedures on these animals . The book ’ s foreword is by Dana Perino , a Fox News contributor , co-host of “ The Five ” and former White House Press Secretary . Perino , who divides her time between New York City and Palmetto Bluff , owns a Vizsla .
The book is beautifully produced on quality stock , 128 pages , and 12-by-9 inches . The charming photos are complemented by classic quotes from Abe Lincoln and Walt Whitman to Rudyard Kipling and Gilda Radner .
