I’d be taller by 6 inches and leaner by 10 pounds. Too bad for
me, one of those wishes is unlikely to come true, so in the
alternative (and in all seriousness), I have hope that 2017 will
help us recover from the many traumas we’ve endured this
year, especially the political ones.
All of us breeders, owners and handlers (including the professionals and the juniors) have a lot of work ahead when it
comes to fighting to protect our dogs, our breeds and our
rights against the ongoing threat of the radical animal rights
agenda. Getting involved is no longer optional for any of us.
In my work, I’ve seen time and again how one person truly
makes a difference. We have knowledge, experience, passion,
pride and an unparalleled love for our dogs all working in our
favor. I hope more of us leverage those qualities as we stand
up to the multitude of public policy challenges our beloved
dog world faces.

Moment of 2016: Dog shows come and go, trophies collect
dust, ribbons get tossed aside, but the memories are never
forgotten, and the friendships are never replaced. Be humble.
Be kind. My most memorable moment in 2016 was winning
Best of Breed under Mr. Tim Catterson, then going on to win
the Toy Group under Mr. Jason Hoke at Westminster, with
BIS/SBIS GCh. Wenrick’s Don’t Stop Believing, ‘Panda.’
Wish for 2017: My resolution is to make time for myself so I
can recharge and give more of myself to those I love.

Moment of 2016: My most memorable moment
was our Azawakh being one of the first of his
breed to be shown at the venerable Morris &
Essex show.
Wish for 2017: My fondest wish for the new
year is for the dogs to be fabulous and for people to be kinder.

Moment of 2016: Favorite memory 2016 is a tie — attending the 9th Afghan Hound World Congress in March and in
April the 2016 American Whippet Club National in San Diego.
Lots of beautiful dogs and the opportunity to spend time with
friends and make new friends.
Wish for 2017: My goal is to concentrate on my health and
get approved to judge more breeds.

Moment of 2016: Winning Best in Shows on ‘Citrus,’ the
Maltese that represents 15 to 20 generations of dogs I have
shown for a wonderful client, Vicki Fierheller. Vicki bred her,
and the pedigree contains dogs I have shown of hers and mine
over the course of 40 years. However, showing Citrus would
not be possible without the loyal friendship of Roy and JoAnn Kusumoto.
Wish for 2017: The best of health and happiness for my clients. Resolution: finally remodeling my kitchen!
