What fashion do you think doesn’t look good on a man? I really can’t stand the droopy pants look the younger men are sporting these days. I get trends and styles yet this is one trend I wish would go away and never come back. What do you feel women love to see men dress like? E.g. the jeans look, the business look etc. There is something about a clean-shaved, professional businessman in a well fitting suit that oozes success. I also think women like men to look approachable at the same time. The casual jeans and a well fitting sport shirt look also rocks – it’s a matter of dressing right for the occasion as well. What famous man do you feel has the best style of fashion? Classic men’s fashion icons such as Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Hubert de Givenchy, Cary Grant and Sean Connery (and subsequent actors playing the role of James Bond) will forever symbolize iconic men’s fashion. In addition, I think Tom Brady, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Robert Redford all do a smashing job of making a mark in men’s fashion today. Do you feel appearance influences your career? Appearances can definitely influence a person’s career and career prospects. I think people may view out dated clothing styles and/or an un-kept appearance as negative, whereas, people presenting a sharp dressed, clean and neat appearance says “I take pride in how I look and will take the same pride in my work.” I think the adage “The clothes make the man” hits the nail on the head. Men and women need to pay extra attention on their shoes as well. Worn soles or unpolished, old shoes will take away from the good impression someone is trying to make no matter how nice your suit is. What do you feel a gentleman means to you? Being a “gentleman” to me means having respect for yourself and respecting other people both physically and emotionally. A gentleman thinks before he speaks or acts so as not to hurt someone or their feelings unintentionally or in the heat of the moment. While it may seem a bit cliché, a gentleman also thinks ahead – hence he reaches for the door first to let you walk in before him, jumps out of the car first to open your door and puts out his hand to help his woman out…especially when she is in evening attire. When I see these simple yet elegant behaviours in a man, I know he was raised right. Do you feel women prefer gentlemen or is that old hat? Of course I prefer a man to be a “gentleman,” yet it is really hard to say what women want these days in a man. When a man holds a door open I don’t see it as an attempt to lessen my equality as some “women’s libbers” demanding equality may see it. I view it as something I deserve out of respect for being who I am. I think it all comes down to how a person was brought up and the morals that were instilled in them. I think if a woman respects herself she will want a man to be a gentleman treat her like lady. Does it matter to you where your clothes are made? This goes back to the quality point I made earlier. Naturally I would not want to wear clothes made by child labourers or in the “sweat shops” we hear about on the news. I do make a habit of looking at the labels to see where the piece was made, yet I don’t make purchasing decisions solely based on where it was made. - 54 -
