Utility Incentives Georgia Power has residential lighting rebate to help offset initial costs of lighting upgrades . Rebates for lighting are only offered to residential customers for LED light bulbs , which include both outdoor and indoor lightbulbs . At present , Georgia Power does not provide a rebate program for lighting for businesses .
Replacement Programs When existing street lighting systems are retrofitted , there is an opportunity to replace them with LED low glare , zero uplight luminaires . There are numerous LED manufacturers and models that are available on the market . Several products provide quality lighting , such as low glare , solid construction , and limited uncontrolled uplight ; however , there are also products on the market that can still contribute to light pollution despite LED technology .
Retrofitting In 2015 , Georgia Power , through the Lighting Services Business unit , began an initiative to convert High Pressure Sodium lights with LED lights . The goal is to convert over 400,000 of these roadway lights within four years . LED products became available to commercial and industrial customers for area lighting applications in 2012 . Additionally , governmental customers were able to request LED roadway lighting as of late 2014 .
Georgia Power retrofitted LED lighting luminaires typically have a CCT of 4100k . At this CCT value , the light appears “ cool ” rather than “ warm ”. The lighting is more compatible with the retrofits , creating a positive benefit to the night training mission at Dobbins ARB .
In Cobb County , various LED lighting projects were initiated through the street light program . This was done in the Town Center Mall area and within the Cumberland CID .
