DIRECTOR'S LETTER
So where does the inspiration come from? How does a designer
manifest their imagination into a piece of clothing that one-day will
be a trend? Back in the day fashion powerhouses such as Versace,
Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel or Yves Saint
Laurent set the trends being inspired from previous designers.
Saint Laurent himself began his line for the House of Dior and
grew into a fashion legend. Seattleites will learn more about him in
late 2016 when the Seattle Art Museum displays the art and history
behind him (pg. 40).

DANIEL HAGER
DIANE STEPHANI
Daniel got his start in photography
shooting extreme sports in middle
school. He refocused his work into concert photography at the same time he
discovered food photography. He looks
forward to the day his son is old enough
to start attending concerts with him so
he can share this passion.
Diane is a Chicagoland native currently
residing in Capitol Hill. She has
interned with DList Magazine since
November and also works at several
restaurants around Seattle. She speaks
multiple languages and spends most of
her time learning more.

Before I moved to Seattle I didn’t really care about fashion.
Well there was that one semester in college where I felt like
experimenting to figure out what I really wanted. But after taking
one course in fashion design, I decided my creative urges were
more towards the writing side. Besides that I couldn’t tell you what
the latest trends or the top designers were.

But in today’s time, trends are inspired from social media and
fashion bloggers allowing designers to create a line based on what
inspires them personally instead of the runway. Whitney Port (pg.
29-31) started her collection, Whitney Eve, with a higher price
point and night wear style. As she got older she shifted her look
to a more casual, less expensive line for every type of woman at
basically any age. Her 1 million followers on Instagram get to see
and buy her clothes they like whether the fashion world considers
it a trend or not.
TANNYA BERNADETTE
GAGAN KAUR
Tannya is best known for her style
expertise and personal shopping skills.
She can easily combine texture, styles,
and trends to produce an effortlessly
pulled together look. Clients appreciate
her ability to understand and interpret
their creative vision yet stay true to her
personal aesthetic.
Born in Punjab, India and raised in
Washington State. Gagan’s unorthodox
ways of doing business and living life
are what landed her the Sales and
Marketing Manager position at DList
Magazine. She’s always grateful and a
little weird.
Ironically in a city that has yet to be recognized for its fashion,
I’ve learned the most here in the past three years than I have in
my entire life. I’ve attended multiple fashion shows, helped with
our photo shoots and of course producing the Seattle Fashion and
Northwest Hairstyling Awards, I've been right in the middle of
the industry. This year we switched it up a bit and added a new
category “Formal wear Designer of the Year.” It takes such talent
to craft a gown from a needle and thread delivering a piece that
a woman can wear perhaps only once and feel like she’s the only
woman in the room. Shooting only one look from the top five
finalists (pg. 45-51) showcases their talent right off the pages in this
issue.
