LEFTFIELD REVIEWS moody soundtrack soul. The Prince Fatty remix ain’t half bad either! Fatima Family Eglo 7.0 More quirky and endearing future soul from Eglo, this time via Swedish/UK soulstress Fatima, who teams up with producer/ beatmaker du jour, Flako. Danton Eeprom Biscotto & Chimpanzee In Fine Music Illum Sphere Sleeprunner Ninja Tune 9.5 Two belting versions of the lead track from Hunn’s Ninja long-playing debut. The original of ‘Sleeprunner’ builds in what can only be described as an ode to John Carpenter with some punch button production, druggy overtones and a climactic string finale. His own pumpedup version is no less aweinspiring. Rolling pulsating synth patterns that rise and fall, in that oh-so unique 5am Berlin way that hypnotises and beguiles every time. Myron & E Do It Disco Stone’s Throw 7.0 Doffing their cap to the sounds of classic Philly disco (with a smidge of NYC soul), Myron & E offer up the latest single from their excellent Broadway long-play. Featured here in all its original glory, there is also a simple and faithful rework from Super Elevation head honcho and all-round disco know-it-all Tom Noble, who softens off the raw funk edges with a more laid-back, synth-infused 4/4 interpretation. Bjørn Torske Kok EP Smalltown Supersound 8.0 Okay, so perhaps the title of this EP may get a little lost in 072 djmag.com translation, but there’s no danger of its contents befalling the same fate. As per usual with all things Torske, this warm, inventive, playful collection of tracks is a subtle, unassuming triumph and just serves to remind us of just why we love this character so much. The memory of Moondog lives on! Various/Sofrito The Sound of Cape Verde EP Sofrito 8.0 When it comes to unlikely sources for edit/rework inspiration, The Cape Verde Islands have to rank amongst the most un-plundered and obscure. Perfect feeding ground for a label like Sofrito, who once again pull it out of the bag with these three excellent edits. I am not going to pretend to know anything about the music of these mid-Atlantic Islands, but it’s safe to say the cultural musical melting pot shines through at every musical juncture! N77 An Angel With No Halo Tru Thoughts 8.5 With a sense of arrangement, production and musicianship well beyond his physical years, N77 has rightfully gained himself a reputation as something of a go-to guy in certain jazz circles. And you can see why! Clocking in at just over four minutes, this wonderful single leads you through a beautifully balanced mix of elegant, haunting jazz, timeless orchestral folk and ALBUM REVIEWS FOUND SOUNDS, PO Box 20437, London, SW16 2YJ 7.5 There’s always been a depth and understanding with Eeprom’s output and as is proved with previous song titles like ‘Confessions of An English Opium Eater’, a wry sense of humour is never far behind. Hence his new more ‘song-based’ material comes as no surprise. A lot lighter but still as infectious, it’s definitely daytime Radio 6 material, although if you want a night-time alternative then try the Kraut accents of the trippedout Fairmont version. QUICKIES Daughn Gibson Phantom Rider Sub Pop 8.0 Biting at the heels of Matthew Dear, this ‘80stinged, slightly camp pop number featuring the dark, sonorous tones of Daugnn Gibson is certainly one of the b
