ALBERTA - LOCAL ARTISIT SPOTLIGHT Edmonton, AB duo Peep This make self-proclaimed ‘Panty Droppin’ Music… like sex, but sexier.” Made up of Tommy O and Tyler C, a.k.a. Peep’n Tom and DJ Tyco, Peep This have played major festivals around the world bringing party music to clubs. DJ Mag Canada caught up with the duo to talk about the music scene in Edmonton, their changing style, and what we can expect in the future. DJ Mag Canada: How did you get into DJing and who are your influences? Tyco: We both got into DJing at different times. I bought my first set of tables when I was 15 after saving all summer working summer jobs. I went to my first electronic show on Vancouver Island, and I was just in awe of the vibe and of the music. It was a really natural progression; I started out playing all different styles and was really into turntablism when I first started - lots of cutting and scratching. From then until now I have probably played almost every genre known to man. Tommy: It was in 2008 that I made the decision to sack up and buy tables. I went over to one of my best friend’s house one day to kick it, and when I arrived I saw he bought a set of Denon CDJs and a mixer. Determined to show his punk ass up, I bought the same pair a few weeks later! About a year and a half later, I realized that a.) I had some cool ideas for songs and I loved music enough to put the time into learning producing and b.) If I want to get anywhere in the scene, I needed to start making my own music. PEEP THIS NAME:  PEEP THIS (TYCO & TOMMY O) HOMETOWN:  VANCOUVER ISLAND, (TYCO), DUBLIN, IRELAND (TOMMY) DJ Mag Canada: Tell us about your podcast, The Peep Show Tommy: It airs the last Wednesday of every month at 1p.m. - so check it out! DJ Mag Canada: How have you seen the music scene evolved in Edmonton in the past few years? Peep This: Music always seems to go in a giant circle. When we first started playing in Edmonton, electro, complextro and dubstep were really big. Then it kind of went through this huge “big room” movement (as the rest of the world did as well,) which we were never huge fans of. As of lately, it seems to be moving in a sexier direction. A lot of people are really getting back in to the roots; deep house, funky house & tech house is making a huge come back – which we are all for! DJ Mag Canada: Anything else you’d like to add?
