In an age of constant communication, with so many ways to find new information, do we still need a Ditchmen newsletter?

Absolutely.

Because the magazine is now, as it has always been, one of the best ways to spread the word about NUCA of Florida. It has allowed me to share the fun and excitement of NUCA of Florida, it showcases the good work of our members, chapters and the association around the state, and it puts a spotlight on important issues affecting us all. The Ditchman isn't just enjoyable for NUCAians – it's a great way to boost NUCA of Florida's public image, and show the state the work that NUCAians do.

Some recent examples include, SUCA and OSHA officially formed a cooperative relationship to provide employers and employees in the construction industry and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in the reduction and prevention of exposure to hazards during trenching and excavation procedures, confined space entry, and other imminent dangers in the underground utility

Today, there are so many more ways to communicate than ever before.

In the age of video conferences and instant messages, we can work together from almost anywhere, and always be in touch; we can share our NUCA work on Facebook, on Twitter, and on NUCAFLORIDA.org. But there will always be a tremendously important role for the magazine that you are reading on an electronic device – right now.

The Ditchmen is 35 years of continuously published NUCA news, with an unbroken publication history dating back to its first issue. Back then, the magazine was printed in black and white, and was only a few pages. The type was small, the pictures were few, and the advertisements were for Bucyrus-Erie Equipment, Polaroid Cameras,
