REP. TRUJILLO NAMED AMBASSADOR TO OAS Florida House Appropriations Chairman Carlos Trujillo was appointed Thursday by President Donald Trump as U.S. ambassador to the Organization of American States. With the 2018 legislative session starting in January, the Miami Republican’s continued service in the House may now depend on U.S. Senate confirmation as ambassador. “Thank you @realDonaldTrump for placing your trust in me,” Trujillo tweeted 22 DITCHMEN • OCTOBER 2017 Thursday. “Humbled by this incredible opportunity.” Term- limited from running again for his House seat in 2018, Trujillo also was nominated in August by Trump as a U.S. representative to the General Assembly of the United Nations. Trujillo traveled to New York on Thursday to address the International Criminal Tribunal about Rwanda, according to The Miami Herald. Trujillo, a 34-year-old attorney, was elected to the state House in 2010 and became chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee late last year. Republicans David Rivera and Ana Maria Rodriguez have opened accounts to try to succeed Trujillo in House District 105. Miami Democrats Javier Estevez and Ross Hancock have also filed for the seat, which represents parts of Miami-Dade, Broward and Collier counties. • • •
