HUGE SUCCESS!

On February 22-24, close
to 100 anglers gathered in
Clewiston, Florida for the 18th
Annual Andrew Scott Johnson
Memorial Scholarship
Foundation Bass Tournament.
Thanks to arrangements by
Brad Bamman, Ferguson
Waterworks, on Thursday
evening the group enjoyed
a delicious dinner at the
Elk’s Lodge in Clewiston
comprised of pulled pork,
scrumptious fried chicken,
green beans, baked potatoes
and dinner rolls accompanied
by adult beverages of choice.
Clark Cryer, Johnson-Davis,
Chair of the Bass Fishing
Tournament welcomed
the group and thanked the
sponsors. Bass Online owner
Todd Kersey explained the
rules of the tournament and
John Fernandez of CROCS,
LLC conducted the Captain’s
Meeting. After a beautiful
day on Lake Okeechobee,

participants returned to
Roland Martin Marina to enjoy
a catfish buffet, complete with
fresh, lightly-battered catfish,
roasted potatoes, salad and
hush puppies topped off with
adult beverages. Saturday’s
anglers visited with each
other as each team weighed
in their 3-top bass and the
total weight of both days
bounty was calculated. The
guided team tournament
winner was Austin Tupler
Trucking, Glen Tupler, Juan
Mas Sarda, and Johnnie Mas
Sarda with a total weight of
24.71. Glen Tupler, Tupler
Trucking also caught the
largest bass with a weight
of 7.24 lbs. Paul and Emma
Knight, Ryan Incorporated,
managed to bring in the
second-largest bass of the
tournament weighing-in at
6.04 lbs. The second-place
guided boat winner was
team Caulfield Wheeler,
David Lindley, Paul Tripp
and Chris Bugg, with a total
weight of 24.06 lbs. and their
biggest bass weighed-in at
5.68 lbs. For the unguided
teams, the first-place team
was U.S. Concrete Products
Corporation, Ron Scarletti,
Maryann Giordano and
Charles Backes, with a total
weight of 27.11 lbs. and their
biggest fish totaled 5.67 lbs.
The second-place unguided
team comprised of Jeff
Liefer and Mike Banks, also
with U.S. Concrete Products
Corporation, caught 22.06
lbs of bass during the two-
day event. Their largest
bass totaled 5.37 lbs. Many
thanks to all the sponsors and
participants for making this
year’s tournament the best
one yet! Be sure to watch for
the scholarship applications
that will be posted online
within the coming month—
college-bound students of
all NUCA of Florida members
and their employees
are eligible as are all the
participants and sponsors of
the tournament.
