IN THE SUMMER CITY Redskins Training Camp | July 28 - August 14 | Redskins Park (West Leigh Street, Richmond, VA) Join the Washington Redskins as they prepare for the 2016 season! Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets to get comfy while enjoying an afternoon of football. After each practice, fans may have the opportunity to get autographs and take photos of their favorite players. And mark your calendars - Fan Appreciation Day is August 13. Admission is free however registration is required. Practices are either at 1:35pm or 3pm and subject to cancellation, so check online before heading out. DC Restaurant Week | August 15-21 During DC Restaurant Week, more than 250 of the District’s finest restaurants offer three-course lunches for $22 and three-course dinners for $35. DC Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to eat at the best places at affordable prices. Restaurant types include Mexican, French, Mediterranean, Italian, Southern, Spanish, Californian, Asian and more. Make your reservations now before they’re all booked up! National Park Service Birthday | August 25-28 | National Parks throughout the DC area The National Park Service has its centennial this year and they want everyone to join the party! During the last week of August, National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone. Explore more than sixty National Parks throughout the Capital Region including Shenandoah National Park, Assateague Island and Antietam National Battlefield. Park hours are generally 7AM – 30 minutes after sunset. Art on 8th | Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays through September | Brookland & Edgewood NE, Washington, DC Enjoy free music, dance, arts and crafts in Brookland and Edgewood this summer. On Thursdays, live music is at 6:30pm on the Arts Walk at Monroe Street Market (716 Monroe St NE). Here there will be great music including Brazilian/Bluegrass Fusion, jazz vocalists Natalie Jean and Denyse Pearson and others. Dance events with audience participation and dance lessons are hosted at 6:30pm on the Busboys & Poets Plaza (625 Monroe St NE). Saturdays feature workshops in arts & crafts, movement & gardening at 1:30pm at Dance Place (3225 8th St NE). The National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race | August 13 | 124 N. Market Street, Frederick, MD This is the nation’s only high wheel bike race. From 2pm-6:30pm, racers will make as many laps as they can on a half mile course in the beautiful downtown. Take a short trip to Frederick to enjoy the antique bicycle display in front of City Hall. Capitol Riverfront Outdoor Movies | Thursdays through Aug. 18 | Canal Park SE, Washington, DC Enjoy popular films on the beautiful capitol riverfront this summer. Movies start at sundown, so these make for a perfect post-happy hour activity! Creed - 7/28 | Pitch Perfect 2 - 8/4 | The Martian - 8/11 | Skyfall - 8/18 Truckeroo | August 19 | 1201 Half St Se Washington, DC Truckeroo is a monthly showcase of DC’s local food trucks, bringing everyone’s favorites together throughout the year. Running 11AM-1PM, a large collection of foods and flavors will be represented, and live music and games will keep the whole family entertained. Holy Crepes, Captain Cookie & the Milk Man, DC Slices, and Kafta Mania are all participating, as well as many others. Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival | August 22 | National Harbor, MD Power through that late August haze by cracking some crabs and downing some beer. Spots are available for the afternoon or evening sessions, 11AM-3PM and 5PM-9PM, respectively. Get ready to dig in because the ticket includes all-you-can-eat crabs, plus unlimited samples of beer and wine. Capitol Dragon Boat Races | August 27 | Southwest Waterfront, 600 Water Street, SW Washington, DC Running 9AM-4PM, The Capital Dragon Boat Races are a stunning celebration of Asian culture right in our backyard. The regatta is an open competition for participants ages twelve and older. No experience is required and training sessions are offered. Dragon boat racing is an important part of traditional Chinese culture, dating back more than 2,300 years. Join in this ancient tradition and enjoy the waterfront weather!
