Philippe Bevan: How to become a photographer?

Willam Leblanc: Having passion and creativity is a great start but I would suggest taking some classes, finding amentor and educating yourself. There’s a lot more to it than just clicking the shutter.

PB: What inspires you?

WL:I get inspiration from many different places. Music, movies, other photographers, painting andart. Really from everywhere. Inspiration is all around you.

PB:What makes a good picture stand out from the average?

WL: Photography is an art and art is subjective. What one person views as amazing another may not see it quite that way. But with that being said, there are rules to photography to be used as guidelines such as the Rule of Thirds, angles and lighting. A good photographer will have his own style and that is what makes an amazing image.

PB: One of today’s main discussion points amongst photographer’s is about the use of

digital photography; do you use digital camera’s?

WL: I do use digital camera’s and have for many years, but I did start with film. With that being saidhowever, I do think digital camera’s have made it too easy for the average person to takedecent photo’s without having to learn the technical side of photography. The industry has beenover saturated with average photograph’s which is why it is why I strive to have my work standout from the crowd.

PB: What is the influence of digital technology on your photography?

WL: Digital technology has a big influence on my photography. The use of editing software has enabled me to really push my photography to another level. From minor blemishes to complete digital enhancements that can really make an image unique.

PB: How important is it for a photographer to “connect” with his subjects to bring out theirtrue self?

WL: In portrait photography, connecting with your subject is everything. Getting your client to relax and have fun helps to bring out their confidence and that’s when you can get amazing images.
