after my previous friend group had drifted apart, I received an email that temporarily tainted my view of Christianity. The email was from the department of corrections, saying that David requested to have communication with me. I was thoroughly shocked and did not know how to emotionally handle this information. I was clueless as to why he would be in jail. I did a quick google search on current inmates in my county to find out that he had been charged with domestic abuse charges. On top of that, this was not his first offense, and he had a record in not only Kansas, but Oklahoma as well. I felt completely betrayed, even though I had never experienced any physical harm from him. I thought, “Why do I want to associate myself with ‘Christians’ if they are simply going to be double sided hypocrites?

For months after finding out the truth about David, I was struggling. I was struggling with calling myself a Christian because I had been hurt so deeply by one of the seemingly most religious person I knew. How could I have been so close to someone that had been living such a double life and I not know about it? I took a break from attending and being active in Church. I stopped calling myself a Christian blogger and temporarily stopped sharing about Christ in my blog. I was angry and had unforgiveness in my heart.

After several weeks of contemplating giving up my relationship with Christ, God tugged at my heart. He showed me that throughout my entire life, I had put humans on the same scale with Christ. People are going to fail and hurt us on a regular basis while CHRIST will not. He also reminded me that it can be easy to get caught up in being religious while completely forgetting the reasons behind the messages that I bring to people.

My friendship with Liam and David hold many lessons to learn. I believe the biggest lesson of them all is to remember the reasoning’s and heart behind WHY I desire to know Christ better. As is it great to have friends who are believers, I need to make sure that we are not only studying the scriptures together but also applying them and are physically showing the hope and love of Christ to the world.

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~ James 1:26-27, NIV.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ~ Hebrews 13:8, NIV.

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. ~ Deuteronomy 7:9, NIV.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ~ Mathew 5:16, NIV.
