"Money Matters"

Article by Dr. Tunishai Ford

Ask any married couple who has had financial difficulties just how much strain that placed on their marriage. You will find out real soon just how the concept of love is holding the marriage together. This is one of the primary reasons why many marriages do not withstand the test of time. If you are single and hoping to get married someday, then you must take a long hard look at your financial status, what value you place on money, what are your spending habits and are you willing to share with another person. Money plays a very vital role in the existence and success of any institution; marriage is no exception.

When you are single, this is the time to work on building a healthy financial portfolio. Having a saving account and a checking account are vital for starters. If you want to really sweeten the pot, then sit down with a financial planner and take a look at all of your assets and see how they can continue to bring in money for you and prepare you for the future. This should be what you are working on now. Don’t concentrate on getting someone to make you wealthy; again, what are you bringing to the table. Everyone is not going to meet a wealthy man or women to

sweep them off their feet and carry them into a financial utopia. You should start the wealth building process yourself while you are preparing yourself for marriage. Ladies, this is not just advice for men.

Having a financial cushion, as I call it, gives you a sense of security and peace of mind. You do not want to find yourself in an emergency situation and you have nothing to fall on. Also, what about those sunny days you are making plans for too? Life happens and you want to always be ready for the unexpected. Just a little placed aside out of each paycheck can go a long way. If you are self-employed, the rule still applies. It is very important that you truly understand the value that money holds in your life before you can join your life with someone else. If you treat money as just a means of exchange for material things, then you will never see the benefits that are intended for it. If you look at some of the wealthiest people in the world, they do not spend their time spending it. It is invested and placed in other entities that will cause it to multiply (Matthew 25: 15 - 30).
