SPIRITUALITY AND FAITH

The Joshua Generation

(From August 2017 Issue)

Article by Francine Houston

Imagine being a slave in Egypt for 400 years and being rescued by Moses. Only to find yourself roaming around in the wilderness for 40 years more. God has a plan for His people, He wanted them to trust Him and obey Him. There was a generation after Moses that rose up, Joshua and Caleb led the way to the promise land. God told Joshua to be strong and of good courage.

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be [d]successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Joshua 1: 8- 9, NASB.

Coming after Moses could have been scary, Moses was meek, humble and did many miracles for the people of Israel. He even led them out of slavery. However, God chose Joshua to finished the job of possessing the promise land.

They overcame their fear of thinking of themselves as grasshoppers and their

opponents as giants. They became bold as lions, very courageous, and knew God was with them. They fought many battles and even when God had the sun stand still for an entire whole day.

"And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelled on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, that you might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you" Joshua 24: 8, NASB.

This encourages me when I am going through trials and tribulations in life to know God will never leave me nor forsake me. When you may be facing new territory, untreated lands, places you’ve never been, something new you are going to experienced, know that God wants you to succeed more than you do.
