I was pleasantly surprised to receive this message. This person, someone who does not yet know Christ, asked how I have been able to go from being a victim of abuse, bullying, and poor mental health to turning into someone who shares hope with the world. I was honored and surprised that this question would be asked. I put together a short list of concepts that personally have helped me GROW in the desert instead of wilt away.

• Don’t dwell on previous dark seasons, it is not worth the time. “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens” ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV; “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV.

• While not dwelling on the past, still find ways to positively use the good, bad, and ugly sides of your story. Be willing to share your story candidly, and boldly when opportunities present themselves. Romans 8:28 states, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”.

I believe in the power of being honest and real with the church community. When I first started sharing my testimony publicly, it was difficult, but I found that God truly makes all things work together for the glory of His good. There’s so much healing power through the ability to be vulnerable with the world.

• Know your limits, and what kind of events may trigger negative thoughts or behavior. Self-care is an absolute must! I know that I have certain activities that I must obtain if I want to maintain a
