APPAREL &
TEXTILE DESIGN
The Apparel & Textile Design
program emphasizes creativity
and experimentation, mingling
design with art. Students
combine fine art, couture, and
technical design to create
original garments, which reflect
an understanding of global
issues such as sustainability and
cultural dress. Each academic
year features a large-scale,
juried fashion show held at the
Wharton Center for Performing
Arts. Apparel & Textile Design
students have the opportunity
to apply for a one-year visiting
student program at the Fashion
Institute of Technology (FIT)
in New York in their junior
year, as part of a longstanding
partnership with Michigan State
University.

ARABIC
An official language of the
United Nations and 22 countries,
with an estimated 300 million
people as its native speakers,
Arabic performs two functions:
communicative and religious.
Because it is the language
of the Quran, more than one
billion Muslims around the world
use Arabic in some religious
capacity. The study of Arabic is
the key to any cultural exchange
and understanding with those
communities. The Arabic faculty
at MSU provide a nationally
competitive program that
equips students with excellent
communicative skills necessary
to engage within a globally
expanding Arabic speaking
community.
