Discover Sherwood Park Strathcona County April 2018 | Page 5

A Warm Welcome From Mayor Rod Frank and Council Welcome to Strathcona County! Discover Strathcona County, our unique and thriving specialized municipality, located on the eastern boundary of the Edmonton Metro Region. We are home to the Industrial Heartland, the UNESCO- designated Beaver Hills Biosphere at Elk Island National Park, a diverse agricultural sector, and so much more. With nearly 100,000 residents living across dynamic rural and urban communities, we are a County that strives to provide an exemplary level of quality services to our residents. Strathcona County is, and will continue to be, a truly desirable place to live, work and do business. I encourage you to explore all that Strathcona County has to offer. Take a drive and see the many natural areas and amenities we are blessed with. The sheer size of Strathcona County, at nearly 1200 square kilometers, needs to be seen to be appreciated. Every corner of the County offers something unique, from the historic Bremner House, Class 1 farmland and petrochemical refining in the north, to the lakes and country residences in the east, to the rolling hills and acreages of Colchester in the south, and the urban community of Sherwood Park in the west. I recommend exploring all nine of our hamlets, and all that they have to offer, to gain a true appreciation for what makes Strathcona County great. The Industrial Heartland is indeed the heart of Western Canada’s Energy Sector. This is the lifeblood of our economy, and provides a rich environment for small and medium sized businesses to grow and prosper. Opportunity is in abundance in Strathcona County. Of course, Strathcona County proudly builds upon this foundation by investing in fantastic services for our residents. Make sure you take advantage of our many recreation facilities. Outdoor amenities include extensive trail systems, the Strathcona Wilderness Centre, the Cooking Lake – Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, and of course Elk Island National Park. Indoor recreation amenities include Millennium Place, the Glen Allen Recreation Complex, the Ardrossan Recreation Complex, the Kinsmen Leisure Centre, and the Emerald Hills Pool. Ensure that you try some of our many local restaurants, and take in some local entertainment and shopping. The Sherwood Park Famers Market is another great way to become familiar with local craft. We encourage you to make the most of your time here in Strathcona County. Welcome!
