• The Moyer Recreation Centre was named after Gordon Moyer who served as
Councilor for the area for nearly 40 years. The community built the complex in
1974 with financial support from Strathcona County. Officially opened on May 10,
1975. Amenities include ice skating, tennis court, ball diamonds, walking trails and a
playground. It also featured a 5,300 sq. ft. banquet hall that accommodates up to 500
people.

North Cooking Lake
• The hamlet of North Cooking Lake became an
important recreation area after 1909 when the
Grand Pacific Railway line from Edmonton was
completed with a Station at the hamlet of Deville,
2.5 km north of the lake. Special weekend trains
from Edmonton brought tourists to the north of
the lake and passenger boats transported the
visitors to different resorts around the lake.
• North Cooking Lake is close to the Waskahegan
Staging Area day use area that is part of the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial
Recreation Area.
• The Deville/North Cooking Lake community has supported a community league since
May 2, 1952. The community league currently offers a number of community-based
programs and special events, senior’s activities, art, dance, yoga, crafts classes, dart/
pub nights, family Christmas dinner, New Year’s Eve Party, for more info visit: www.

• The community hall also hosts the Deville Community Market held every Tuesday
from 4 to 7:30 pm from February thru December.
