South Mobile County Events Blessing of the fleet. MAY 1, 2019 TASTE OF THE BAYOU The 5th Annual Alabama Seafood Cook off take place as part of the 31th annual Taste of the Bayou. Sample a variety of Fresh Seafood while watching top chefs compete for a win a spot in the Great American Seafood Cook- off in New Orleans AND the World Food Championships. JULY 3-5, 2019 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS The 4th of July is an extra special time for many, as they gather to celebrate together. South Mobile County annual events include the  Grand Bay Watermelon Festival, Dauphin Island Veteran’s Association Ceremony, and Dauphin Island Fireworks with the Mobile Pops Band on the 4th. MAY 4-5, 2019 BLESSING OF THE FLEET The custom of the Blessing of the Fleet can be traced back to Old World European fishing communities where God was publicly acknowledged and asked for a bountiful harvest and the safety of the men at sea. Today, a Fleet Blessing ceremony begins with a prayer by the Archbishop of the Diocese of Mobile. After this, decorated boats of all kinds form a procession behind the boat carrying the Archbishop as the he blesses their boats and docked vessels along the way.  JULY 13, 2019 ROY MARTIN YOUNG ANGLERS TOURNAMENT Taking place on the Saturday before the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. RMYAT is for children 15 years and younger and typically attracts more than 1,500 young anglers. MAY - OCTOBER, 2019 SUNDAY SUNSET CONCERTS Celebrating the natural beauty and the Island’s designation as the “Sunset Capital of Alabama”. Held at West End Beach, the concerts begin about 90 minutes before each sunset. JULY 18-20, 2019 ALABAMA DEEP SEA FISHING RODEO More than 3,000 anglers from 24 states will fish in the Gulf of Mexico for three days for more than $400,000 in cash and prizes in 30 categories. Sponsored by the Mobile Jaycees. OCTOBER 12, 2019 DAUPHIN ISLAND ART TRAIL Over 40 artists from throughout the Southeast at 10 local businesses – many hosting open houses. Pick up a map at any of the 10 stops & have it stamped at all 10 stops for great prizes. Ride your bike, your car or the free trolley which will transport visitors from spot to spot with a pickup at the ferry as well for “walk- ons” from Ft. Morgan.
