Lewis Funeral Home

?

1 . What inspired you to get into the Funeral indusry ? I believe that it was a calling from God . My passion is helping people , because I am a people person . My journey with Lewis Funeral Home began when I was 24 years old . Under the leadership and guidance of the late Robert Washington , Jr ., I was taught how to be understanding and compassionate to the families we serve . Many times when familes come in to make funeral arrangments for a love one , it ’ s a first time experience . It can sometimes be somewhat difficult and confusing . Therefore , I am fully committed to providing our families with helpful information .
2 . What led you to join Lewis Funeral Home ? I was working at another job , However , I was a frequent visitor to Lewis Funeral Home , because I knew a lot of the staff there . Also during that time , I was attending Morturary Science School with Mr . Washington ’ s daughter , Karen . I started doing my clinical rotations at Lewis Funeral Home . Mr . Washington took an interest in me , and later offered me a job at the funeral home . He taught me many aspects of the funeral business . In 2009 , I was given the position of Assistant Manager , and in 2011 , I was promoted to my current position of Chief Operating Officer . I have served as a full time funeral director at Lewis Funeral home for over 24 years .
3 . What legacy do you want to leave behind for Lewis Funeral Home in the future of the business ? My legacy would be based upon the same priniciples as Mr . Washington ’ s legacy , which is to serve our families with “ Professionalism , Integrity , and Caring ”. Everytihing that we do at Lewis Funeral Home is for the ultimate goal of making the life of the grieving family better during their time of loss . When you talk about legacies associated with lewis Funeral home , you can ’ t speak about it or it ’ s legacy without mentioning two people who have played a major role in my life , and the legacy of Lewis Funeral Home --- Mr . james Bryant , Sr ., who has been with Lewis Funeral home for 44 years , and Mr . Clarence Baines , who has been there for 40 years .
4 . How important is Lewis Funeral Home to the community is serves ? Lewis Funeral Home has been a tradition in San Antonio for over a century . The fact that any business is able to weather the economic storms for 107 years is remarkable , but it is a historic achievement for a black owned business to last that long , and nearly unheard of to have ownership of a business remain in the same family for that long a period . Also the Lewis Funeral Home is a major sponsor for numerous youth groups , senior citizens , religious institutions , educational programs , sororities / fraternities , social and civic clubs , and many other community projects .
