Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are engaged in crucial talks with their US counterparts - U S Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and US Secretary of Defence James Mattis . In her opening remarks , Swaraj said she was confident that the outcome of the talks will help unleash the untapped potential of the relationship between the two nations and further elevate the level of engagement . She said there has been significant progress in all key areas of cooperation between the two countries . In his remarks , Pompeo said both sides should continue to ensure freedom of the seas and work towards peaceful resolutions of maritime disputes . He also stressed promoting market-based economics and good governance . " Our two nations are united by shared values of democracy , respect for individual rights and a shared commitment to freedom ," he said . Earlier in the day , Swaraj and Sitharaman held separate meetings with Pompeo and Mattis respectively .
STATE VISIT OF H . E . SHAVKAT MIRZIYOYEV , PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN TO INDIA ( SEPTEMBER 30 – OCTOBER 01 , 2018 )

. E . Mr . Shavkat Mirziyoyev , President of the Republic of Uzbekistan , accompanied by a high level delegation , visited India from September 30 - October 01 , 2018 . This was the first visit of the President to India . President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met Shri Narendra Modi , Prime Minister of India and had Restricted and Delegation level talks at the Hyderabad House . The Uzbek President also met his Indian counterpart Shri Ram Nath Kovind .
Relations between India and Uzbekistan have traditionally been close and cordial . Since 2011 , the two countries have elevated their relations to the level of " Strategic Partnership ” encompassing cooperation in a wide spectrum of areas including political , economic , education , health , human resource development , defence , counter-terrorism , science and technology , culture and tourism . Exchange of frequent high level visits on both sides has served to cement bilateral ties . Both India and Uzbekistan have also been closely working together as members of SCO .
