Some years later on the occasion of the 50th commemoration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and India , Dr . Mohammad Hamid Ansari , Vice President of the Republic of India , paid an official visit to Peru , during 26th- 28th October 2013 .
President Alberto Fujimori visits India in 1997
In order to reciprocate the official visit made by President Alberto Fujimori to India , the President of India , Shri K . R . Narayanan , visited Peru in April 1998 . It was the first ever Presidential visit from India to Peru , which had set the objective to reinforce the friendship ties between India and Peru and to promote a higher level of economic exchange .
An MoU on Space Cooperation between the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) and the Peruvian National Space Organisation ( CONIDA ) was signed during the visit . The MoU envisages cooperation in development and use of remote sensing techniques and satellite-based applications .
In the framework of the 40th commemoration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and India , the Minister of External Affairs of India , Yashwant Sinha , accompanied by a high-level CII delegation visited Peru during 3rd-4th June 2003 . A joint statement was signed , which covered inter alia , subjects like World Trade Organisation ( WTO ) issues , sustainable development , biodiversity , climate change , poverty alleviation , fight against terrorism and reactivation of agreements . An agreement on abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic , official and service passports was also signed .

During this visit the Governments of Peru and India reaffirmed their commitment to revitalise and deepen the political dialogue , understanding and cooperation between the two countries . A Joint Statement ( see ANNEXURE 3 ), issued for this purpose , was also proposed to raise the level of relations between the two countries through the creation of the Peru-India Joint Commission , at the level of Foreign Ministers and with the participation of other sectors at the level of Vice Ministers . In this context , an invitation was sent to the President and the Foreign Minister of Peru to officially visit India , on dates that would be agreed by diplomatic channels .
The First Meeting of the Joint Commission was held on 21st June 2017 , in Lima , Peru . The same year , the first round of negotiations of the bilateral trade agreement was held in New Delhi in August 2017 . These events underscored the increasing level of ties between India and Peru .
