Digital Up Magazine Kusho – Fraction of a second sculptures
The invisible world he manages to capture is similar to Erwin Wurm’s One minute sculptures, but Maruyama
can claim »Fraction of a second sculptures«. They are created with a giant brush with which the author
spreads water and black ink in the air in front of a white surface. Inspiration for the photographs came from Maruyama’s childhood when he was fascinated with the traditional Japanese craft of calligraphy. He states that »Kusho is calligraphy in a way. Instead of on paper, it is written in the air.«
