The Mill, Heat, MJZ, Electronic Arts, and director Dante Ariola joined forces to create Star Wars™ Battlefront™ – a fantastic teaser starring Anna Kendrick. DICE’s Star Wars™ Battlefront™ gives fans
the ability to live out their Star Wars™ battle fantasies in a galaxy far, far away.
The main motif in this promo is the famous “Obi Wan Kenobi effect”, based on the notorious death scene in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope™. Gamers throughout the world disappear, only to be found in the game again later. The Mill was responsible for creating an illusion of the clothes falling as gamers disappear.
»The trickiest shots - and the most fun to work on – were the ones where the actors vanish in the middle of an action, like the skateboarders for example. The final product is the result of a huge collaboration between our 2D, 3D and design teams,« said the lead 3D artist Koen Vroeijenstijn.
The biggest challenge was how to put Star Wars Battlefront on a pedestal in the face of the biggest Star Wars film launch ever. The solution was to allow the fans to step into the most realistic Star Wars simulator ever created and to re-enact the iconic battles. The first act starts with a 60 second anthem spot with gamers disappearing worldwide, including Anna Kendrick. Later, the video showcases famous YouTube influencers appearing in gameplay scenarios. Celebrity gamers were a great solution for reaching the wide audience fans, as well as to reach the fans of each influencer.
The final result was the most anticipated gameplay launch ever. The created hype surely paid off. Star Wars Battlefront was put in the spotlight right alongside the latest movie Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
