directly at Jesus. She then asked Him for a thorn from His crown. He replied that He would give her the favor, but not until the next day, and the vision vanished shortly. II B.32 Suffering Prompts Petition for God’s Blessing for the Country of Poland 181 (Diary, # 39): At some point Jesus told Sr. Faustina that He slated great punishment on Poland’s most beautiful city (probably Warsaw). The “chastisement” would be similar to God’s “punishment of Sodom and Gomorrah.” Sr. Faustina observed God’s great fury, which jolted her heart. So she prayed quietly. Jesus then told her, “My child, unite yourself closely to Me during the sacrifice and offer My Blood and My wounds to my Father in expiation for the sins of that city. Repeat this without interruption throughout the entire Holy Mass. Do this for seven days.” On the seventh day, Jesus revisited in a bright cloud. Sr. Faustina beseeched the Lord to look mercifully upon the city and her whole country. Jesus then looked down kindly and Sr. Faustina began to implore Him for His help. At once, Jesus told her, “For your sake I bless the entire country.” He then made “a big Sign of the Cross over the country.” Beholding God’s “goodness,” her soul was filled with gladness (Diary, # 39). II B.33 “Suffering will be a Sign that I Am with You” (Diary, # 669) On the morning of July 16, 1936, when someone hurt her feelings, she tried to unite this suffering with God’s will, and praised God by her silence. In the afternoon, when she went for five-minute Adoration, she suddenly saw Jesus come alive (from the Crucifix that she had on her chest). Jesus told her, “My daughter, suffering will be a sign to you that I am with you.” Her soul was greatly touched by Jesus’ words (Diary, # 669). 181 Ibid., Faustina, Diary, # 39. 87
