(Diary, # 685): Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary that she had just spent a Holy Hour and
gone back to her cell when she was favored with the infused knowledge, that a person close to
her has wounded God very deeply. She then experienced intense painful agony for its sake.
Forgetting herself totally, she dashed to the ground and begged the Lord’s mercy, filled with
deep compassion for this soul. Afterwards, she relentlessly spent the next two hours in tearful
and prayerful supplication, even flogging herself, if only for the Lord to prevent this soul from
committing the sin. Subsequently, in His great Mercy, God tenderly “embraced” the person in
His arms, which then averted this soul from offending God further. Relieved, but amazed, Sr.
Faustina concluded, “Oh what a price of one single sin!”
II A.9 Atoning Suffering Calls for Union with Christ’s Physical Suffering 125
(Diary, # 1247): At some point in August 1937, Sr. Faustina received the infused
knowledge on the spiritual condition as well as the nature of the sin committed by a soul who
had displeased God. She became aware of it when she suddenly suffered pain in a certain part of
her body. She came to understand that her aching side, hands, or feet corresponded to the Lord’s
suffering from His pierced side, hands, and feet. She then made reparation to the Lord for the sin
committed by this person, corresponding to the offense.
(Diary, # 1248): Also in August 1937, Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary, that on certain
days, she wore a chain belt for seven hours to obtain the grace of repentance for a soul. And then,
at the seventh hour, if she felt relief, to her, it was a sign that the soul interiorly received
remission for its sin; although it still had to go to Confession. For the sins of the flesh, she
