consonant with “all the graces of the Holy Spirit” (Diary, xxiii; CCC, 981, 1373). In the Scriptures, “water” is symbolic of the Holy Spirit with its “purifying” work in the “Sacraments of Baptism and Penance” (Diary, xxiii). Also, as the Christians are “baptized by one Spirit,” they also “drink of one Spirit…the Living Water welling up from Christ crucified (CCC, 694,1088). The forgiveness of sins is by Christ, who acts in the power of the Holy Spirit, through the Sacraments of “Baptism, Penance, and the other Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist” (CCC, 976, 981, 1373). Jesus in the “Eucharistic Species” and the God of Love and Mercy Himself, feeds the soul (Diary, # 1074, xxiii; CCC, 1088, 1374). The Holy Mass also makes present Christ’s Paschal Mystery or His salvific work through His “life, death, and resurrection” (CCC, 1409); and the Divine Mercy Image that is publicly exposed in the church at the time of the Holy Mass, also helps to concretize this Mystery (Diary, xxii-xxiii). The Divine Mercy Image not only fittingly portrays the “Merciful Savior” Himself; it also reminds the faithful of Christ’s extreme suffering on Good Friday for love of God and man (Diary, xxii-xxiii).
