was drowned in Him as in its only treasure.” She felt His “kindness” and “conversed with Jesus
at great length.” He also answered her prayers and many souls returned to the Lord.
(Diary, # 1816): She also wrote in her Diary, “When I received Him into my heart, the
veil of faith was torn away. I saw Jesus who said to me, My daughter, your love compensates Me
for the coldness of many souls. After these words, I was once again alone, but throughout the
whole day, I lived in an act of reparation.”
(3.10) Holy Communion: “Closeness to God in a Special Manner” (Diary, # 346)
Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary on her personal experience during Holy Communion at
the morning Mass on December 24, 1934 (Vigil of Christmas):
During Holy Communion, joy filled my soul. I felt that I am closely united to the
Godhead. His omnipotence enveloped my whole being. Throughout the whole
day, I felt the closeness of God in a special manner; and although my duties
prevented me throughout the whole day from going to the chapel even for a
moment, there was not a moment when I was not united with God. I felt Him
within me more distinctly than ever. Unceasingly greeting (also) the Mother of
God and entering into Her spirit, I begged Her to teach me true love of God. And
then I heard these words: I will share with you the secret of My happiness this
night during Holy Mass… (After supper), despite all the joy and the external
noise…and the mutual exchange of good wishes, I did not for a moment lose the
awareness of God’s presence (Diary, # 346).
The Mother of God told Sr. Faustina that she would reveal to her the “secret of Her
happiness” during the next Mass, which would be at the Midnight Mass on December 25, 1934.
As noted in Sr. Faustina’s Diary # 347, Mary’s “secret of happiness” is none other than Jesus,
depicted as the Infant Jesus in Sr. Faustina’s vision during that Midnight Mass. The vision would
be “repeated” in three other Masses.
Below are additional personal experiences of Sr. Faustina, which shows her “closeness to
God in a special manner” in Holy Communion:
